Pokhara Lake side will open 24 x 7

09 November, 2011

Lake side, Pokhara’s tourist hotspot, will now open round the clock. The local administration
recently decided to allow the tourist hub to operate 24X7 so as to make it easier for tourists
to enjoy the night life. The fresh move is expected to help not only the tourists, but also
local tourism entrepreneurs amid Nepal Tourism Year 2011.In order to make tourists feel more
comfortable and safe, the police have started to install night-vision CCTV cameras at Lake Side.
The administration has also asked dohori and dance restaurants to make their wall sound-proof so
that local residents are not disturbed. The administration took the decision bearing in mind the
tourists’ demand. “We took the step so as to make tourists feel more comfortable and enjoy their
stay,” said Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Western Region at a
press meet here on Tuesday. So far, restaurants and hotels at Lake Side were not permitted for
late night operations.Hoteliers here have welcomed the police move. “We will completely support
the administration’s plan,” said Biplav Poudel, chairman of the Western Hotel Association (WHA).
“We must make sure that no hotelier disturbs other.”Pokhara Tourism Board chief Baikuntha Acharya
hailed the new provision, saying that the earlier provision of closing businesses within 11pm had
discouraged tourism entrepreneurs. “Tourists want to enjoy during the night time. The new provision
will help attract more tourists,” he said. The board’s statistics show that 203,000 tourists visited
Pokhara last year. There are around 300 guest houses, small and big hotels and 150 restaurants currently
n operation at Lake Side.
